The Welfare Council

The Welfare Council provides a forum for agencies and organizations involved in human care services in the Highland Park and Highwood area to network, exchange ideas and identify unmet needs. The 75-year old Welfare Council became affiliated with the Highland Park Community Foundation in 2010, after formerly serving as a committee of the United Way of Highland Park/Highwood.

Highland Park Golden Apple Award

In 2010, the Foundation and a local family foundation joined together with the Chicago-area Golden Apple Foundation to initiate an annual Golden Apple Award to recognize outstanding teachers in the Highland Park school systems. This award honors excellence in the teaching profession for grades kindergarten through twelve. The winner of the Highland Park Golden Apple Award will receive a $2000 grant, a laptop computer or iPad, and recognition from the school, school district and the Highland Park Community Foundation.
