Funds collected by the HPCF are added to the endowment fund and managed by our Investment Committee. The fund has provided a consistent return, enabling the Foundation to regularly increase total grant dollars awarded.

Grants are awarded on an annual basis to qualified local nonprofit groups who have completed a rigorous application process. Each grant applicant is assigned a liaison from the Foundation’s Board of Directors, who researches the agency and makes a funding recommendation to the entire Board. In addition, a comprehensive review of the organization’s governance and finances ensures that funds go where they will make the greatest impact in our community.

These annual grants provide funds for new initiatives and continuing programs created by local agencies such as staff additions and training, youth scholarships, and internships.

The Foundation has also begun offering proactive grants where unique needs and opportunities have been identified. Recent examples include funding for the Highland Park-Highwood Legal Aid Clinic and a Jens Jensen garden pool restoration project.
